Avoid These 3 Diet Mistakes

change-your-mindWith all the information about weight loss you would think that we would avoid diet mistakes that are fairly common. Not the little ones like eating that piece of chocolate cake but the big mistakes that lead you to fail in your weight loss efforts.

By understanding what these big mistakes are you can develop the right attitude to succeed at losing weight permanently.

1st Diet Mistake – Having an all or nothing attitude:

This mistake is pretty common. You pick out an overly complicated diet that will be practically impossible to stick to.

You throw out every last thing in your kitchen that does not fit with the plan because you are going to be that picture of the perfect dieter. But you know that sooner or later you will mess up and when this happens you believe that the diet is totally ruined, so you give up.

Once this happens you go out and buy all the things you initially threw out and gain back the weight you lost, plus more!

Avoid this diet mistake by making small changes gradually! Stop being so extreme. Move forward one day at a time, one change at a time so that you up your chances of accomplishing your weight loss goals.

2nd Diet Mistake – Having an attitude of sacrifice

Having this type of attitude towards dieting doesn’t allow you to learn the all important notion of being able to eat those not so great foods in moderation.

You view your diet as a time to sacrifice those foods you love instead of viewing your eating habits as a lifestyle choice. You punish yourself by denying yourself even the smallest taste of a food that is not on your diet plan.

Problem here is that when you have reached your weight loss goal, what happens? You have denied yourself for so long and have not learned how to eat the “bad foods” in moderation so you may go overboard and begin to gain back your hard lost pounds.

Avoid this mistake by including a little bit of everything in your weight loss plan. Yes, even that tiny piece of chocolate cake!

3rd Diet Mistake – Not Setting Achievable Goals

We all want to lose 20 pounds in 2 days but this is not an achievable goal, unless you lose a body part, and nobody wants that! You need to set realistic goals when you embark on any weight loss plan.

Your goals should be written down in clear, realistic terms. Instead of focusing on what you eventually want to weigh, write down something along the lines of, “I will lose two pounds per week for the first four weeks and then one pound per week until I reach my ideal weight.”

This is a somewhat more achievable goal than writing down, “I will lose 52 pounds in 3 months.” Some weeks you’ll lose more than 2 pounds and some weeks less. You may even gain a pound or two here and there which is totally natural on any weight loss plan. Keep track and you’ll see that even with all the ups and downs you will continue to move towards your goal of 1 to 2 pounds of weight loss per week.

Don’t worry too much if you’ve made any of the above diet mistakes. Just move on, learn from them and don’t use them as an excuse for not succeeding. Make the commitment to become a healthier you and remember to enjoy any kind of food in moderation.

An easy and enjoyable way to change your attitude towards any weight loss plan is to change your mind about it through hypnosis. Give it a try and you’ll see how much easier it is to become healthier and slimmer when you’ve got your subconscious mind backing you up!
